GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The future looks bright for the first-ever class of graduating veterans in a unique manufacturing program at NWTC.
The Manufacturing Leaders Project congratulated its students from around the country in a ceremony at the Great Lakes Energy Education Center on campus Thursday.
The program focuses on preparing U.S. military veterans for long-lasting careers in manufacturing. Careers in manufacturing can provide a new path forward for veterans returning to civilian life.
U.S. Army veteran, Bill Leahy, says the scariest time for any veteran is when they're transitioning out of service.
“So they get the added benefit of they get this wonderful community that we’ve built, they get certainty in their future, understanding that there’s a whole lot of roles out there they can fill and do it well and then there’s also this greater mission of building family and helping manufacturing, so it’s really cool," Leahy said.
The Manufacturing Leaders Project is also featured in Leahy's upcoming documentary, Unturning Steel.
