The UNTURNING STEEL Story
Shortly after the loss of Bill's brother, MAJ Sean P. Leahy, USMC, UNTURNING STEEL launched into development. We earned the "Best Cultural Innovation Award" from the University of Tennessee—Knoxville's Reliability and Maintainability Center and The Reliability of Everything because of our efforts for our 2023 pilot program. In 2024, we launched our second cohort in Knoxville, TN, and have begun preparations for full-scale operations in 2025.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit utilizing the DOD Skillbridge program to ensure the program is cost-free for service members and sustainable. We are currently recruiting US Manufacturers to join UNTURNING STEEL as host companies.
We invite all like-minded organizations and individuals to join us. The only requirement is a solid commitment to supporting our military and manufacturing communities. Join us!

Qualifications
Experience - William "Bill" Leahy is an experienced Reliability & Operational Excellence Consultant with nearly 20 years of combined manufacturing and military service. He has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by transitioning military and manufacturing communities, and he knows how to address these challenges systematically.

Education - Bill holds a BS from The United States Military Academy at West Point, an MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill, and several professional certificates and certifications. Living in Southeastern New England, I actively volunteer as a youth sports coach and community member.
Motivation - Bill founded UNTURNING STEEL INC. (UTS) in 2022 after his brother became one of the more than 125,000 veterans who have taken their own lives since 2001.
